Recreation - Education - Sport. In a prime location on the Gerschnialp, at the foot of the Titlis, in the middle of the Engelberg skiing and hiking area (1262 m above sea level), the Zschokke-Haus has been standing for almost 90 years. A stone's throw from the Gerschnialp funicular, yet far away from the hustle and bustle, it is the ideal starting point for field trips of all kinds. Made possible in 1934 by a generous donation from zoology professor Friedrich Zschokke to the University of Basel Student Union (skuba), two years later a ski and mountain lodge was built, which is still available today for affordable group stays surrounded by breathtaking scenery.
The Zschokke-Haus can and should be used in a variety of ways. Whether for holding a seminar, a ski trip or a learning marathon: thanks to its modern infrastructure (Wi-Fi, projector, screen and much more), the cozy chalet is ideally equipped for your next group excursion. Specialist groups or university associations are also cordially invited to spend one of their upcoming meetings at the Gerschnialp.
Run and managed by a foundation board, the Zschokke-Haus is primarily available to members of the University of Basel. However, external Groups are just as welcome on request.
Booking the house: Our chalet can accommodate up to 42 people and is designed for group travel. The house can be booked by groups of twelve or more. If the group is smaller, a minimum flat rate will be charged. Available dates and the contact form for booking inquiries can be found under Reservation inquiry. We look forward to your visit.
Winter operation only for the time being. Until further notice, the Zschokke-Haus can only be booked during the winter season. This begins in mid-December 2025 and lasts until April 2026.
We are delighted to have found Käthy Stutz, an experienced woman in the field of hospitality and customer service, for the Zschokke House. Käthy Stutz is an entrepreneur who set up a daycare center and managed it for many years. As a board member of the Riehen Tennis Club, she ran the club's catering business on her own last year – she had previously worked in the business.
What could be better than combining sport, academics and work in a beautiful setting, in a beautiful hut!
Professor Moritz Lehmann, Umweltwissenschaften
We were perfectly supported at the Zschokke-Haus. The location is also ideal for team building.
